What are your favorite products at ALDI/ COles?Woolworths? Consider price and quality.

  LUNCH Box ideas Australia

I put this question up on Lunch box ideas Facebook page, about favourite supermarket products. I kept losing as they have so many posts. It is copied it here. I would love to hear your comments just comment at the end. Thanks

Just wondering what are your favorite products at ALDI/ COles?Woolworths? Consider price and quality thanks.

Someone asked about Aldi. There prices are the cheapest on many things. Although you will have to supplement with coles or woolies every 2nd or third shop, to get those things you can't get.. Cheese is $6 for 1kg of tasty. Humus dip is $2 Aldis tastes good. Coles humus at $2 is terrible. Brown rice crackers are nice $1.19. Ham is $5 in 4 separate packs for lunches. Taco kit with 15 tacos is $4. . Meats are cheaper they can be a little tougher or fatty, but still fine. Beef mince is now cheap at Coles also. Tuna is cheapest at Coles at 80c. I do believe Aldi have just introduced tuna small for 75c, although I haven't tried it yet. Milk is the same at all supermarkets. Wholemeal bread is same at all supermarkets. Aldi has Hasbrot Rye and sultana bread for $2. Crumpets for $1. Also there chips are always $2 and you get lots more in each pack. Coles has done alot to match Aldi on prices. Tissues are $1 at both. Look out for Aldi specials once a year they have great quality. I still use a 30cm teflon pan and lid from Aldi, They will repeat them once a year. Shopping rant over.
  • Myfanwy Spencer We get everything we need at Aldi. There is no need to go elsewhere.

My favourite thing at the moment from there is their Danish Feta. I don't know the price as I never take any notice

  • Anja Patsina We use to get things from aldi but now we get the local fruit and veg place to deliver to us and do the rest at Coles. I use to think Aldi was pretty good in most things the only thing I didn't like was the taco packs and wraps or their bread. Everything else was good.

  • Cassy Browne I absolutely love ALDI!!
The only things i don't buy from there are stringers, fish, gravy mix and nappies. There's also the things they don't stock - like nappy cream and dried apples that I buy at woolworths.
  • Carlene D'Rosario Great info! Thank you

  • Sharon D Mayorga I'm fairly new to Aldi so still trying things out but my favs so far are:
    Their version of windex.
    1kg cheese blocks.
  • Rita Keay was yours slimey Sharon?
  • Sharon D Mayorga ummm, I don't recall it being slimey, but definitey alot more moist/wet (if that makes sense) than what I would normally buy from a deli.
  • Rita Keay k...i normally buy them but this pack was gooey slimey...might give em a miss nxt time
  • Sharon D Mayorga ahh, mine luckily didn't seem to be slimey, not like they can go sometimes from the deli after a bit too long anyway.
  • Alana Williams I brought a 3.5kg leg ham from woolies for $18. Usually $44. Reduced cause it expires in march but we've already gone through half of it. Think homemade pizzas, pasta with ham, dinners with ham. Deli ham is just as processed and it actually sits in the windows for sometime. I use to work at a deli and would never buy from there.
  • Sharron Sheining Ok With the ham, as soon as I open the pack I put in a tupperware deli container! It will last about a week in there.
  • Emma Vozzo I buy aldi corned beef, one does dinner for us and my sandwiches for the next few days. I also like their hand soap, tuna, corn thins, crackers, even their choc.
  • Vanessa Brown Oh how I wish we had an Aldi in Perth. apparently we are getting one soon.
  • Melissa Cornish I love Aldi I do 98% of my shopping there only going to coles to get those few things they don't sell I love their marinated chook!
  • Meagan Ross Love the prepackaged bacon and shredded ham- great for pizza scrolls or a quick home made pizza.
  • Kyla Byrne Aldi 3 lt milk is $2.80 whereas $3 at Coles/WW. Aldi GrainWise bread is under $2 whereas $5 at Coles/ WW. Shopping Aldi has made a huge difference to our family budget. I would find it difficult to live somewhere where there was no Aldi. I had to go to WW the other night & grabbed a few extra's. I was disgusted by the prices, and didn't really enjoy the shopping experience.
  • Rebecca Jane Singh I do almost all my shopping at Aldi, I do a butchers shop every now and then but I also buy meat from Aldi their roasts are amazing!
My fave things are the Tuna, Toilet Paper, Sandwich Meats are Good for the price and quantity.
but Cheese, both block and grated. Dips, Eton crackers, rice crackers. Special Buys, Coffee Pods, Eggs, Flour, Nuts and Seeds etc

  • Dominique Edwards Sounds like it might be worth the petrol to go to Aldi. I shop at woollies but it's so expensive it's just close and I wasn't sure if it was worth travelling. There's a new one opening up closer soon though which will be good.
  • Claudia Gaston Aldi converted here too, have cut my shop considerably with shopping at Aldi. I don't buy the gravy and I get my fruit and veg from a local online grocer as quality superb and its delivered free. I use to travel 40mins to an Aldi but now only 15mins away.
  • Melanie Ann I go to aldi too, sooooo much cheaper!! I love the specials each week (especially since we are in a small town with no department stores) so we can get a little something for the kids or us. I haven't tried toilet paper from there (has anyone?!?),

There are very few things I don't love from Aldi.
I only supplement from Coles for baking things that Aldi just don't stock and pads as I prefer stay free but Aldi's are good too, and from the Indian Grocer for my spices and specialty items in bulk.
  • Rebecca Jane Singh I buy their Toilet Paper Melanie and it's good the purple 24 pack, it's a quilton dupe
  • Melanie Ann Awesome I buy quilton lol...any ideas on price?
  • Rebecca Jane Singh $8.99 for 24
  • Melanie Ann Brilliant, thank you!

  • Dani Searle I buy all of my 'real' food at Aldi.Fruit, veg, meat, dairy and seem to only stock up on junk at the other two major stores.
  • Alison King My ham four pack was slimy last week but still in use by. Never ever had it slimy before, hoping it was a one off
  • Elizabeth Asher I had that recently too Alison!
  • Cassandra Nicole Lilly Cavallaro I've only bought ham from aldis twice and both times it was very slimy but still in date and smelt fine the use by date on theirs seem to be a lot longer than others so I think it is the preservative that makes it slimy. I won't buy it again though. Other than that I love aldis their dairy products are the best. Milk and bread aren't as good as Coles but cheaper.
  • Meredith Mullaly I buy aldi 4 pack of sandwich ham (works out to $15 a kilo which is cheaper than ANYWHERE else. I did have it slimy once but just returned it. I like the convenience of the single packs as very little waste. I have an allergic child so there a some things I can't buy at aldi but do most of my shopping there for basics. I feed a family of six (two teenagers!) for about $120 a week from Aldi/Woolworths.
  • Vidhu Khera Love aldi for lots of stuff. We get our fruit and veg from the markets and Indian grocers once a month. The only thing I didnt like in aldi was their salsa, and DH gets his chicken from coles i think. (I was a vegetarian for most ofmy life, so dont eat much meat, Dh cooks chicken sometimes)
  • Rebecca Price Mills Smoked salmon!!!!!!
