First Triathlon in 21 years Gold Coast Triathlon Luke Harrob Memorial

Awesome, difficult and fun.
Luke Harrop Memorial Triathlon Gold Coast 1/5/2011 Enticer. Completed by me in under 1 hour. Cost $55

I did some some  short distance tris when I was in my 20's and I didn't mind wearing 2 piece sports bikini for the whole event. Now 20 years later its a whole different ball game. I need padded bike pants so my glutes don't hurt. I need a singlet so I don't get sunburnt.

SWIM -300 m- everybody had those one piece 3/4 thigh Trisuits. Priced some $250, can you surf in them also -NO because sand will damage it. Its designed to be sleek and repel heat and go though the water. Anyway the only one piece cossie I had was my blue Lifeguard one from Seaworld. With a large "lifeguard" written on the behind. Lucky none wanted me to save them! I felt so expose showing my thighs when everyone else had there 3/4 leg trisuits on. Did fantastic in the swim came in with some girls from the heat before. I had technique I started at the back and then went on the inside. So noone hardly banged into me at all.

BIKE- 10k- I have different bike shoes and run shoes. So it was a run up the beach from the swim ripping of the floro pink swim cap and goggles as I went. I also took off the one piece cossie and stayed in my 2 piece sports bikini. Chucked on a singlet and well padded bike pants. My prescription sun glasses- so I can see the road and a hat and helmet. Can't forget the socks and shoes These shoes have no laces so easy on. Lots of stuff. The bike ride is nearly all flat except a couple of small hills this is wear I had trouble with the gears. On my 30 year old aluminum bike - have to have the gears looked at. So while I'm trying to change gears people are overtaking me. It was great that one of the busiest roads the Gold Coast HYW Southpot outside Australia Fair Shopping centre was all close off for the event. Enjoyed the scenery shops etc.  For all those that cheered for me and gave me encouraging words as I rode my heart out, it was much appreciated.

I would like the Trigon Bicycle $7400 carbon fibre bike only weighs 6.4 kg. More expensive then my car! The stall at the tri did give me a free bag and drink bottle.

RUN- 2.5 k Back to transition area, Throw on Running number. Bike and Helmet, right arm and left calve were all numbered. I got some elastic and threaded the number through. Most people had a race belt- $10 to attach the number. Rip off bike shoes and put on runners- elastic laces $3 so I didn't have to undo laces- just slip them straight on. In the run all the adrenaline and exhilaration I went into anaerobic phase instead of aerobic. I felt this taste in my mouth- aweful. Just wanted to get to the finish line. At the last bit another girl talked to me - Thank you she gave me some inspiration to keep going and we raced to the finish line.

Did it in under an hour. Fantastic can't wait for the next one- Robina in November. Of course we had perfect weather God was listening.

Big turn out for Luke's race

Love that Ocean! See you out in the surf! SALTY.surfergirlgoldcoast.blogspot.com/
