Good Morning, its 5 am and still dark. I love to blog early when noone is awake. Hubby is already off to work. The lovely kids are still sleeping. My curtain is open hoping to glimpse the morning sun rays when they arrive. It looks like the southerly winds kicked in yesterday and the swell may have arrived again, after a 1 week rest. Those sore back and shoulder muscles are recovering. There has been so much surf. It was like clockwork February 1st - the waves rolled in. I kept telling all those lovely Surfing Mums Feb- Mar is cyclone swell season and the swells will come. They looked at me in disbelief as they started at the crystal clear lake with the ripples lapping on the shore. The swell came and left and its due back for the Quicksilver and Roxy Pro that will start tomorrow,Friday the 26th of Feb, if there are waves.
Even though its dark here at my house. I just had a look at the Coastalwatch surf Cam for Snapper Rocks and Rainbow Bay The swell hasn't come yet, it looks real small. I can see the lines of waves rolling in as if promising to come in with the incoming tide. I will check back a little later to decide if its a surf day.
Snapper Rocks is the top of the Longest point break. On a good day you can paddle out at Snapper and keep catching waves through Rainbow Bay and then finally arrive at Greenmount. Some of the waves can be really long- so much so that your legs can start aching. What an adrenaline rush! The sheer excitement and thrill of catching one of those long peelers with a perfect wall. The perfect wave sometimes there is a great wall for doing maneuvers and then as you get close to the beach there is sucky tube section.
Wow just dreaming about it.
Often I'd have my toddler and be walking at my favourite place- Coolangatta - Kirra to Snapper stretch and it would be a very hot day. I would watch the ocean as I walked doing my exercise (have to lose that baby bump) and dreaming about going out for a surf. I'd even see myself in my minds eye catching the next waves that came in. Of course I could go out on the weekend when my hubby was there- which is great I love that family time spent at the beach. During the week I was stuck, no babysitters, no family that were able to help.
Then when I was pregnant with my second child, I saw a newspaper story in the local freebie paper, " Gold Coast Sun". Wow a Surfing Mums group that do playgroup at the beach and even get a chance to surf. I knew I had found my playgroup. My friends at the time were all paranoid about the sun: wrinkles, skin cancer, a sun tan- they worried about. I would say to them wear a hat , sunscreen and a wetshirt. I would often walk with them and it would be so hot, 30 degrees hot and sweaty. I was able to convince them to bring there kids for a play in the waves. THEY were very reluctant and never stayed long. Surfing Mums has been my savoir and I think you are all awesome! You all love the outdoors. Love the beach. You are all enjoying your life instead of staying home to do housework all day. There is a place for housework- that is after a good surf!
See you in the surf xoxo. Salty
