KEEP OUR BEACHES FREE FOREVER - KBFF

My letter to Jorno for the Gold Coast Bulletin. He suggests paying to use the beach to fix erosion of sand.
My worst nightmare.

Daniel Meers,
I read your article, "Gold Sands a Goldmine", about paying to go to the beach, with total disgust and had to write to you quickly.

I go to the beach every single day. I surf, swim, kayak, walk, jog, workout, meditate and relax there. The thought of having to pay for this is ridiculous. I love the ocean the sunshine and everything about beach life. Everybody lives on the coast for the same reason to enjoy the beach and just breathe the fresh air. Otherwise they would live inland. Our beaches have the best facilities in the world from fresh water showers, playgrounds, bbqs, pathways for cycling and walking. These facilities are provided for by the council for free. We all pay as part of our rates.

You obviously go to the beach once a year in summer when its so hot and sweaty, that you are sticking to your computer chair - that you never leave. I say to you, give your money to the council if this is your desire. Do not impact on other peoples' lives because you never go to the beach. Turn on your air conditioning and go back to sleep as you state repeatedly on your Facebook page. Leave the beach to those who love it.

The bottom line is the rich homeowners who live on the beachfront don't want to pay for sand restoration. They elected Tom Tate to stop the Oceanway so nobody could walk with their prams and wheelchairs in front of their beachfront properties. Now the ocean is taking over. If they would have agreed to the walkway it would have been the council's responsibility, now it's the homeowners.

I believe Tom Tate is in support of keeping the beaches free. Fantastic TOM. That's why I voted for you.

Erosion closes Gold Coast beaches

UPDATE: A long recovery lies ahead for Gold Coast beaches as a combination of big swells and high tides continues to wash away the sand.
A number of beaches are closed due to access problems, with beach stairs and viewing platforms destroyed by the wild weather.
The worst-affected spots include, Miami, Surfers Paradise and Main Beach.
The popular Miami beach path at the base of Nobby Beach has collapsed and is expected to be closed for up to a week.
Pedestrian traffic over Nobby Beach has also been closed from both directions.
A viewing platform near the Miami Surf Lifesaving Club has also been destroyed.
Tractors are working to move sand at Surfers Paradise Beach to re-profile the beach immediately adjacent to the foreshore walkway.
The public is asked to show extreme caution when accessing beaches and to stay away from high scarps.
The Bulletin reports, the council has asked the State Government for half the estimated $30 million cost of a long-term erosion solution but the plea has so far fallen on deaf ears.
Mayor Tom Tate said the council was considering a number of long-term options over a three-year period and needed financial assistance from the State Government to act any quicker.
Another king tide is expected to cause more damage tonight.
